Medical Student (Accepted) Jun 12, 2017. If you read 'Being Mortal', there is a section about a physician that won all of his sales contests in high school. The reason - he wasn't afraid of being rejected so he took a lot more no's to get the yes. This is true in dating for both sexes. Jul 15, 2020 Majority of medical students are now women. Medicine has been a very conservative and male dominated field for 80+ years. It's going to be a couple decades before the slight female majority in medical school reverses that trend. Here are numbers from 2015: overall, physicians are still 66% male. Mar 27, 2013 Medical Student. I guarantee 1/4 to 1/2 of those couples will be broken-up by this time next year. Focus on finishing first year and don't try to get into anything too serious. As someone who just got out of a long-term relationship a few weeks ago, I know that it's discouraging right now.

I've noticed a trend-- and this might be just at my school-- but it bothers me all the same.
I'm fortunate enough to attend a top 10 medical school; I worked so hard to get to where I am that I never really put much thought into dating. I figured I could simply make up for lost time while at medical school.
What I didn't account for is that the vast majority of guys in our class are taken (we're all about mid-20s). That itself is fine- what's more disconcerting, is that most of these guys have long-term relationships with women in much less rigorous professions (i.e. art, high-school teachers, nonprofit work etc.) No disrespect to these professions, and I'm sure they can be fairly challenging because I've worked in some of these fields, but I all in all I see very few of these guys dating women in medicine. From the handful that are, they rarely ever date girls in med school (i.e. there are some in pharm). There's a stark difference in our class with the guys being taken and the girls-- good-looking, clever, and talented-- being single.
In all honestly, it seems like being accomplished has actually HURT our chances, whereas being in medical school has seemingly helped the guys. How do we address this?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but felt i needed to vent. I'm a 22yo male incoming m1 in a couple weeks. been single my entire life. Living at home since march has made me feel pretty sad and recently my mom asked me 'how come you've never had a girlfriend, that's not normal'. I didn't really think much of it during hs and college since my mentality was always 'just study hard now, figure out all that relationship stuff later.' Now I've made it into a really good med school in a big city, but I'm worried that I have no relationship experience and that I'm going to get old and be alone forever. I'm pretty introverted and shy when talking to girls, and I've tried dating apps/went on a few dates but never really vibed with anyone and it always felt so forced. Does it get easier in med school? I've heard it's generally a bad idea to date people within your class, so I want to avoid that. I want to do a competitive specialty like ortho/neurosurg (which apparently has high divorce rates), and I'm worried that med school will just be a repeat of undergrad where I'm buried in the books and will continue to stay single. I hope my frustration makes sense and I'm posting here since I don't really have anyone I'm comfortable talking with about my feelings.
